October 6, 201114 yr ok so i was thinking about calling and seeing if a foreign engine importer has any subaru diesels, if one could be found is a different tranny used, and if so how hard would it be to come across?
October 6, 201114 yr They are available but price is about 7500. several posts on here regarding someone in Atlanta and someone in Washington importing them..both price them about 7500. good luck on the money for them.
October 6, 201114 yr Bolt pattern to tranny is the same as EJ transmission so that should not be the problem. You also need the ECU, sensors and wiring harness to come with the engine.
October 6, 201114 yr Yep, they are being imported...still very expensive though. I've been on the hunt for a FSM that covers the diesels, haven't found one. I'm VERY curious how the fuel controls and such work, and how hard it would be to transplant one. I WILL have a diesel subaru.
October 6, 201114 yr Numchux, i can see you making a wiring harness conversion from a newer EJ car for swaps
October 6, 201114 yr Contact Pacific Powertrain pacificpowertraininc.com they have the newest version not the older one with the aluminum intake.
October 7, 201114 yr The main issue is that all Diesel cars are CAN-bus equiped... That makes the wiring a lot harder - if at all possible. However, a vintage Subaru with a modern boxer diesel is appealing. I still haven't made a final decision what engine I want in my 82 Hatch (de-stroked EJ20K turbo, n/a EJ22 DOHC and even EZ30R H6 have been on my mind) so if I run into a wrecked Diesel for the right price...
October 9, 201114 yr I have readed many complains about the subaru boxer diesel engine online: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95177&page=6 So I Believe that those First Gen Subaru Boxer Diesels aren't reliable Yet. Kind Regards.
October 9, 201114 yr Any transmission you bolt it to can not handle the torque, and as stated a CAN-BUS which in english means it is all multiplexed. The ecu may not be just an ecu but the cars other systems may be tapped into the "ECU".
