October 13, 201114 yr Ok, wired up my 99 Outback Sport with a trailer hitch as I'm moving this week and pulling a trailer. Looks like the last time I closed the hatch, the trailer wire was right in/or by the U hook that holds the hatch closed. Now I can't get it to open! The 'hook' that goes thru the 'U Hook' that keeps the hatch closed,,,, does that 'hook' on the passenger or drivers side??? I'm thinking I can get a screwdriver in there to help release it???? Any other ideas???? Thanks, UMT
October 13, 201114 yr Spray some WD-40 at the U hook area, wait few moments and then try opening it while pushing on the hatch down, then pull strong. I had it once, it was stuck because of some wood (blame the dog who took it in) and the hatch opened driving over a speed bump.
October 13, 201114 yr Author Hey, thanks alot! I tried your advice and shot some oil in there, waited a few minutes, and the hatch opened right up! Appreciate it! I never would have thought of this. Thanks, UMT

October 18, 201114 yr Like it's so hard to find a pic of a stuck subie! Dave Love the pic, maybe someone drove it to paradise?
October 18, 201114 yr Had this happen a couple of times (darn sleeping bag) took me a while to figure out just to push the hatch down/in... didn't even need the lube...
