2000 legacy took a dook

motor leaks coolant, drivers side cam needs replaced, possible wheel bearing , but still runs , but needing another subaru :horse:

What makes you think it needs a cam?

Toss a bottle or two of "subaru coolant conditioner" in the radiator for the coolant leak.

Cam seal, maybe. I'd be surprised if it needs a cam.

Wheel bearing isn't that much of a big deal.

Find out where it's leaking coolant from. If you're lucky it's the waterpump leaking. Even if it's a head gasket, it's not that hard to replace.

I wouldn't condemn it for a few simple things. If the rest of the car is solid, fix it up.

the shop i took it to said it was cam problems, drivers side, looses power, almost back fires, when you give it gas, mpg is still good 25 high way, can no longer get coolant stuff,

I would start by looking for a 2nd opinion. Something doesn't sound good.

You need another opinion.

And you can definitely still get the subaru coolant conditioner. Try one of the online dealers.

Or just find any online auto parts dealer that sells Holts Radweld. That's the product that subaru rebranded and sells for $1.50 a bottle at the dealer.

Just out of curiosity: how does a camshaft "fail" if the engine is still working?

If there's a coolant leak (presumably from the front of the engine) AND the engine has lost power (i.e. bad timing) I would suspect the water pump is on it's last leg

That's a very young engine :)

How big is the coolant leak? Is there coolant dripping on the floor?

that car is barely broken in. FIX IT! my outback has 117k, my wife's has 160k, my old legacy had 202k, and my roommate's legacy shot rod at 300k+
