April 22, 201213 yr First timer here for head gaskets, but it seems to me these two are identical rather than being mirror images L and R Please advise. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=9636&d=1335118382 I have to get the car on the road Edited April 22, 201213 yr by thedoctor no photo attached
April 22, 201213 yr Most engines (that i have done head gaskets on) have been the same. Just put them next to the head and see if they match. Whic engine are these to?
April 22, 201213 yr both heads are the same casting. it is possible to install the head backwards and still run..i have seen it!
April 23, 201213 yr Author But the right head has the EGR port in it. I need to know whether or not to plug it. I did start another thread on this.
April 23, 201213 yr the part of the gasket that is forward on the left side will be at the back on the right side. Same gasket both sides. Same heads both sides except for the machining for EGR port threads. Install the EGR tube, block off plate the instead of valve. although why you'd want higher cylinder temps is beyond me???
April 23, 201213 yr Author As Valentine Mike says in Stranger in a Strange Land, "I am but an egg." Thanks for helping.
April 23, 201213 yr Well... I Knew about Iron Maiden's "Stranger in a Strange Land" :-p And I've read once about an EA82 Running with Flipped Heads, but with EGR Disabled... So, those Head Gaskets must be OK, just test them on the Heads Prior to Install, to see if they Block the EGR. Kind Regards.
