Cleaning the transmission filter on a 91 Loyale

Featured Replies

Hello out there... does anyone have any ideas on cleaning the transmission filter on my 91 Loyale (automatic)? Im in Mexico and can't get the part for a few weeks and need to drive about 600 miles in a couple days. My tranny oil is black... yuck.

Is this a terrible idea? Is it possible? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

I would just change the fluid. We had a 93 (I think) Loyale with the 3-speed automatic. Transmission started slipping and I got the bright idea to change the filter and fluid. This was many years ago and I might remember it wrong but I think when I pulled the filter there was a nut on the bottom. This was a bolt from above with no access to put it back. I was able to get the new filter back in minus the bolt but their really was nothing wrong with the filter that came out. Plus it didn't fix anything. Yours may be different.

You should have a wire mesh screen filter on it that is cleanable and reuseable.

The 3AT automatic has no filter - it has a pickup screen only. Just change the fluid. There should be no need to change or clean the screen. The pan has magnets in it to trap small particulate.
