'88 EA82 Code 55

Recommended Posts

Didn't have a "Check Engine Light" bulb in the dash, do now.

But CEL is constantly "on" now.

Pulled codes, got a 55-EGR gas temperature sensor circuit open or shorted.

Didn't know these cars monitored EGR temps......

What am I looking for here?

edit;

Haynes doesn't give info about that sensor, just talks of the solenoid and EGR valve itself.

Can't say if this is a California Model, but the Wagon did come from Washington State. I haven't noticed any sticker or whatnot stating that it meets California Emission Laws.

ECU was stuffed under the PS seat when I got the car. Wondering now if it is the original for this one, or did it come from a different vehicle.

More digging to be done.

Solution found.

Dug thru the FSM, and other wiring info looking for knowledge. Very brief paragraph about the EGR temp sensor in the FSM, wasn't much help to me. Listed the Ohm readings one should have during checks of that sensor.

Anyways, thought of swapping in the ECU from the '92 parts Wagon, but wasn't sure if I needed to do an input to it for the Auto Seatbelts.

Then I remembered getting an SPFI ECU from MilesFox awhile back. Dug it out swapped it into the Wagon.

No "CEL" on now.

Have to drive it around to see if any issues arise.

The auto seatbelts have their own control box in the trunk.

That part I know.

What I don't know is why there is an input to the ECU from the seatbelt system.

I've had 3 different vehicles here with the Auto belts. Could start them and drive all over the place without the belts being "properly" fastened.

It's all moot now anyway.

Wagon goes down the road just fine since swapping the ECU.
