gas tanks 2nd gen?

Featured Replies

A shot in the dark....

Wondering about the interchangeability of gas tanks between an '85 BRAT and '88 GL wagon.

Basically, I'm hoping to bring home a BRAT sometime soon, but it'd need a new (well, non-leaking) gas tank. I live in the land of no old gen Subies (i.e Illinois), and the only junk yard 80s model remotely in the area is an '88 GL. If by chance they happen to be interchangeable, that would be so awesome! I just didn't know where to start looking for the answer besides here.

I'm just staring to get into older Subies and your help would be much appreciated!

Thanks much in advance :)

If the gas tank in your Brat is leaking, you could patch it. I dont care what anyone says; ive used 100% silicone before. And thats what my dad used when he worked on RV's as well. just my 2 cents ;) there are other ways too, like Welding, but fumes are a problem :Flame:

No it will not fit. The Brat is 2nd gen, the 88 GL is third gen.

You can have the tank epoxy lined by any good radiator shop.

just saying but couldn't he do a adapter plate to put the 88 wagon gas tank on, not sure about the gas lines but there prity close

bondo works well for patching gas tanks it will not degrade from the gas and since it does not see a lot of sunlight it will last a long time. i have done this before an old master mechanic told me how to do it :D

They got to see the difference between the EA81 and EA82 tanks today.
