April 3, 200421 yr I just installed a strut tower brace in my 92 loyale 4x4 wagon from SUBSPEED.If you rally your subaru this is an upgrade you will want.I already thought my suby had a predictable feel while drifting through corners, But now it feels unbelievablely more solid while cornering on gravel or pavment.I know subarus lack in power, but they more than make up for it in handleing I think.Especially offroad.
April 3, 200421 yr nice. you really feel the differance huh? the subspeed wont work for me because of my intercooler. I may have to fab up something similar.
April 3, 200421 yr so remove the intercooler and build a combination strut brace / intercooler mount thats what i plan on doing i was curious how much a a noticeable difference a brace added hmm
April 3, 200421 yr no can do. the intercooler hoses and piping are so short that there would be no room for the motor to flex under torque. tried that already.
April 3, 200421 yr oh so you have the intercooler mounted on the motor then ? well on a second suggestion get some inch or inch and a half 1/8 inch wall tubing bent up to wrap around the front and back side of your intercooler and weld it onto plates bolted to your towers not as strong as going straight strut to strut but i don't think you would notice the differance ..
April 4, 200421 yr Author Observations from yesterdays field testing.Before when I cornerd fast I would leave a tire mark on the road with my outside tire as well as getting a little tire roll.Now I'm leaving a mark from both front tires with no noticalbe tire roll. It seems like i'm keeping the front tires on the ground better which equals more control or less understeer. I also notice that i have less steering wheel vibration. Only bad thing I noticed was...Bumps are harder (especially bumps that load both front wheels at once) so it might be easier to brake or bend something.It's a trade off. Rallyruss. I have heard of poeple welding an extra layer of metal to the strut tower walls for a more ridgid ride.I think this would work because I can see where my strut towers have flexed. see pictures on this link http://www.freewebs.com/subaruloyale/index.htm
April 4, 200421 yr welcome to the board! yeah ive been tinkering with strut braces from other cars. to find a "cheaper" route than subspeed's as i belive its well over a $100:eek: . by the way: jason called and left you a V.M., im not working on monday if you want to meet up
