Question about EA81 Turbo Water Pump

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I have a 1984 EA81 Turbo Engine, it was purchased as an Import from Japan.

I need to replace the Water Pump. When looking on the Internet and Ebay in the USA there seems to be numerous different Manufacturers. My question, is there one better that the others. There are plenty of Water Pumps for Non Turbo Engines here in Australia, but very few for Turbos. EA81 Turbos were not released in Australia.

As far as I know the difference is single groove pulley standard and double pulley on the EA81T. Either pump should fit either block. I can check specifics if needed.

Crazyeights, Thanks I have all the specs from a workshop manual. Just wanted to know which was the best brand, Cardone, Aisin, Gates, GMB and so on. Does anyone know who was the original manufacturer of the turbo water pump?

Come on Guys, give us a hand here, someone must have purchased a water pump recently.

I prefer NEW rather than rebuilt. Other than that just grab one from whichever manufacturer still makes it.  I think oem was Aisin if I remember correctly.

GMB brand is often found inside many different branded boxes here in Aus and I have never had to replace a GMB brand pump - only ever replaced genuine - answer your question ?

Definitely go new vs. rebuilt if you can afford it.  Dealership would be a great place to get a quality new part.

Thanks for all that replied. I have put the pieces of my water pump back together and found that the original manufacturer was ATSUGI, I was looking for a pump with a cast impeller, from what I've read the GMB is not cast, is this correct? Non Culpa
