May 22, 201411 yr I've got my bumper completely apart and will be cleaning up and "rust controlling" the various pieces, but while it's apart it got me thinking..... How is everyone mounting their fogs to the bumper? The actual metal bumper doesn't extend far enough out to offer a surface, all that is up front under the plastic cover is....... STYROFOAM. I see no way of rigidly mounting the fogs above or below the bumper line; perhaps I'm missing something?
May 22, 201411 yr I once used really long bolts and drilled all the way through the entire bumper. You couldn't really see the nuts on the bottom, and the mounts for the lights were very rigid.
May 22, 201411 yr Mounted mine below the bumper to the front valance/air entrance. Screwed the 'L' shaped brackets directly to top inside surface.
May 22, 201411 yr My fog lights below my bumper (and my offroad lights on top) are just screwed into the bumper. They don't go all the way through, but yet they're quite securely mounted. They don't vibrate or anything. It's stronger than you'd think.
May 23, 201411 yr The factory fogs replaced one of the screws on that metal bar that is under the bumper to hold the skin on. It just gets replaced with a 10mm bolt. Its one screw to the inside of the turn signals.
May 23, 201411 yr I made brackets that clip onto the cut outs in the back of the bumper metal. And then they bend and go under the little metal strip under the grille, and my lights are mounted to that. That way you can take them off and you don't have holes in your bumper.
May 25, 201411 yr I made some brackets and mounted mine where the turn signals went (now located in the cornermarkers)
May 25, 201411 yr Could you explain it a little more in-depth, maybe with pictures, JJ? Wow, didn't see this until now. I can get you pictures in the morning if you'd like. Though really all it is are two 2" long self-tapping screws holding each light. Just drilled them in to get 'em tight, then that was that. They're just drilled straight into the bumper. The mounting brackets for the lights I have allow me to do this. My old light setup I had to get a bit creative. I bought a door hinge at ACE Hardware and used that as a bracket, but it drilled directly into the bumper in the same fashion. Just a screw straight into the styrofoam. I have some pictures of my old setup in the following thread (post #13): http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/134769-ea82-alternator-upgrade/?do=findComment&comment=1133181 I'll get some pictures of my new setup in the morning.
