This was back in 1996 or 97 when the lighthouse was still right next to the water.  Hard to believe that I drove this thing all over the beaches down there and only got stuck once.

I love Ocracoke!  Definitely had the old GL out there too!  Did you post your picture?  I was not able to see it.

I'd love to drive back down there at some point, it's just a REALLY long drive from Maine in a ragged out on GL... Taking the outback down would be a bit more realistic.

 

Alternately, I need to hurry up and graduate from school so I can get a good job and afford an airplane... Ocracoke has an airport

We did some over sands runs , sans permit. Haven't been there since just after the lighthouse moved.

Much nicer away from people.

You can go north towards Carova without a permit.

 

A lot of trails and sand roads behind the dunes up that way too.
