ok, well i got home tonight from work and got started, and my problem is that i cant get the rear CV axle pin back in. i pulled the trailing arms, brake lines, etc in about 40 minutes, didn't know what i was doing.

 

got the new one in in about a half hour, again had to fight it.

 

now i cant get the pin that goes through the CV and the output shaft on the diff to go all the way in.

 

i just have to get it in, then bleed the brakes on the drivers side, then start to attack the passenger side and do that side tomarrow, then hit the front and get the new pads/rotors on the front tomarrow also.

Sounds like the axle is 180 off. pins will go in part way like that, but then they bind up.

Make sure that you have the holes in the axle and shaft lined up correctly. It's possible to have them 180 degrees off. Look at the stub axle and the shaft. one side of the hole is flat and the other side is tapered. The two tapered sides have to go together or they will be off by one tooth. If you put it together like that, the pin will never come back out!

As caleb said - 180 degrees out will cause the holes to not line up, it if doesn't go right in like it's greased, then you NEED more Anti-Sieze, and to line up the parts right. Try using a screwdriver blade or similar to clean the splines, and then a wire brush to get all the junk off. Then a LIBERAL coating of anti-seize so you can slide em right on. When they are properly lubed, and cleaned, they will actually be slightly *loose* on the splines!

Yeah, 180 off. Ditto.

2 things.

 

1. It is possible to get the pin almost the entire way in when it's 180 off. It just takes a hammer and some patience.

 

2. It will come back out if you get it almost the entire way in, it just involves a punch, a hammer, and some patience.

well... i got the drivers side swaped over with no problems, so now i just have to get that pin out of the drivers side CV, swap it around and im good.

 

also ive been bleeding the carb brakes for like 30 minutes on the drivers side and finally got no bubbles to come out. passenger too like 10.

SUbaru brakes need to be bled in an X pattern.. bleeding the fronts or rears by themselves like its a chevy won't do you much good

did ya'll know hondas are the same way(on the brake thing).

all FWD cars are the same like that.
