Cheap clutch verdict?

Featured Replies

Looking at new clutches. EBay has no name brands, that are 2/3 the price of Exedy. So some cheap versions of things can be quite good these days, what's the verdict on these 'Premium' clutch kits?

I have used the Bahnhof brand kits 3 times now with good initial results. Longevity remains to be seen. So far 10,000 miles and counting on my 2000 outback.

When I have a choice, I don't buy made in China.

I always go to Rockauto.com first, see what they have. I also research and see what the OEM part was. I have a preference for OEM or as close to as possible.

Thanks Subarule, I was unaware that RockAuto would ship to Austraila! Just ordered the clutch from them at $100 cheaper than I can buy it in Australia.

Did some research and ended up going with LUK brand instead of Exedy.

I have had couple of those LUK clutch sets and those seem to be excellent in my opinion. One of them was installed years ago to my old leone and it holded up nicely for couple years even in hard situations like pulling a big trailer and hitching some cars from the ditches they have ended up. No problems with the LUK at all.

You're very welcome. I'm always happy if I have saved someone some money. My advice to everyone needing a car part is to go to Rockauto first and at least get a baseline price in order to comparison shop.
