Jzak2014 Posted August 9, 2015 Share Posted August 9, 2015 Hello I have a Subaru Impreza 1995 like look: Problem: When i start engine, if the word "Power" is not appear, the transmission looks like on 4th gear and the car cann't run at 1st gear. So i try several times open the switch until the word "Power" is appear, then the transmission will operate normally without any problems on road with different speeds. does this is problem in Computer unit or the gearbox? johnceggleston Posted August 9, 2015 Share Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) When i start engine, if the word "Power" is not appear, the transmissionlooks like on 4th gear and the car cann't run at 1st gear. this sounds like it is in ''limp mode''. the trans defaults to 3rd gear to you can limp home. when you turn the key to run (not to start yet) the power light should come on with all the other dash lights as a test. once you start the engine, the power light should go off. if it blinks 16 times and then goes off, that means you had an electrical problem in tghe trans the last time you drove the car. this sounds like a wiring problem, or maybe a TCU, trans computer, problem. on left hand drive cars in the usa, the trans computer is located under the dash,(right side i think) held in by two bolts, and is a little smaller then a paperback book. Jzak2014 Posted August 14, 2015 Author Share Posted August 14, 2015 Let me list the problem again in detial I have Subaru Imperza WRX Model 1995 I replaced gearbox with another (for 1997 model) first week, it works normally, put i noticed "Power" indicator when i start the engine delays a few seconds. Next week, "Power" did not appear, so the car drive as 3rd gear, after few seconds "power" gets On and flashing, so the car drive normally. So, i try open switch several times (may be 10 times) until get "Power" indicator ON, and then start the engine. After Power gets On, flashing 16 times. What i can do to fix problem? porcupine73 Posted August 14, 2015 Share Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) The flashing 16 times means it has one or more codes stored.You'd have to find the procedure for that trans to get it to flash out the codes or read the codes out of it then see what they mean. Since it was working OK at first after the replacement and then started acting up later maybe check all electrical connections? wtdash Posted August 14, 2015 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Hi, Read THIS to get the codes stored in the transmission. Did you used the transmission fluid pan to jack it up?
