timing for 9.5:1 compression EA82T

Featured Replies

just wondering what timing i should run with my EA82M (Mongrel) engine.. everyone has been telling me that it wouldnt run right, if at all. ive already done a 3 mile run up hill holding 6 psi boost the entire time and it never leaned out, i have my original timing for now cuz i dont have a timing light yet (22* or 24*)

i have 02 readings in car at all times and havent had any problems yet

runs perfect, just have to finish up my vaccum system now!!

thanks for the help!

Well without a timing light, you're just guessing - it could be 6' it could be 26'...

And are you looking at wideband AFR's?

Are you running it on Premium Gas, 95 for you guys isn't it?

yes i run premium gas, i think its 94, i can get higher octane gas though. im at stock 22* for now. was just asking if anyone knew where it would be best for boost at higher compression

a fella a little south of you ran his unknown origin EA82T with similar compression at 10 DBTDC. Some time later car was for sale with suspected blown big end. Dunno if you will get same outcome, or if a rebuild known engine would do same ,,,

way to go  !!

Your ringlands will blow apart. I did a SPFI EA82 block with gen 2 turbo heads, TD04, spider intake, larger injectors, rising rate fuel pressure regulator, exhaust, cams, cold air intake. At 12psi, that engine lasted about 500 miles....

ive already been tearin this engine up, i shift at 5 or 6k every gear HAHAHA havent had any issues yet.

MPFI block, vf11 turbo, 3rd gen heads w/stage 2 delta turbo cams (14k miles), and slight porting n polishing. seems to do fine @10psi with the stock ECU

you probably boosted it too high.. im running 10psi and it doesnt lean out at all, all the way up to 7500rpm. lots and lots of bottom end torque and still pushes top end power pretty good

thanks Jono, im going to adjust slightly until i like how it runs (: i rebuilt everything in this engine.. smoothest running EA82T ive heard yet haha

if it goes bang then it goes bang HAHA it seems to be handling everything great from the readings im getting

Less than stock.

It is more about avoiding detonation than air/fuel ratios.

How are you monitoring the knock sensor?

There is a reason turbo cars come w/lower compression.

You should run the highest octane you can get.

I expect it will run fine until the meltdown.

thanks Naru, im going to the knock sensor next now that ive confirmed it doesnt lean out at all up til 12psi HAHA i didnt wanna go past there at all. im going to run 6psi and monitor knock sensor  while i adjust timing

the EA82M has been going strong for last 4000 miles and havent really been taking it easy, redline every day haha. gets 28mpg highway and still runs perfect. i miss the 12psi boost from my turbo block though haha
