December 27, 201510 yr ok guys here we go I have no one else to turn to. I own a 2010 Subaru Impreza RX 5 speed. it has done 90,000km as soon as I start the car up it will turn off. I have noticed a flashing fuel light but I put petrol I have a flashing key I don't have the clock on the dash working anymore and the temp is flashing red and blue. please please please help
December 27, 201510 yr How old is the battery? Low battery voltage can do all sorts of weird things. If its original its a good chance its time for a new one Edited December 27, 201510 yr by mikaleda
December 27, 201510 yr Have the error codes checked for clues to the problem. I suspect that the security system may be causing the issue.
December 27, 201510 yr Could also be a bad battery in your key fob, just remembered having this problem at the service center. A new button cell battery in the fib fixed it. Edited December 27, 201510 yr by mikaleda
December 28, 201510 yr have changed the car battery and the key battery and still nothing Check the battery ground connection.
December 28, 201510 yr With the key and temperature warning lights flashing this may mean something is happening to the electrical system. It may involve the alternator. I suggest you disconnect the small wire connection to the alternator which should disable it. Then start the engine and see if the other warning lights still turn on. Ignore the battery light if it turns on. If the other lights go out and the engine stays running you will have to replace the alternator.
December 28, 201510 yr Okay, disconnect the alternator connection and see what happens. If nothing changes put the connection back. It would help us if you made your statements more clearer. I can't tell from your last reply if you already tried my suggestion or you are just saying nothing starts and turns off. In your first post you seem to indicate the engine starts up and then immediately shuts down.
December 29, 201510 yr Author sorry I tried disconnecting the wire and it hasn't done anything new. the engine still starts up and immediately shuts down.
December 29, 201510 yr The flashing key and temp lights seem to indicate you have some sort of electrical problem though I'm not sure what it is unless it is with the ignition switch contacts..
December 29, 201510 yr when you start it, does it crank longer than before the problem developed? that is, if it originally went; Rrr, Rrr, VRRROOOMMM does it do the same now, or is it ; Rrr, Rrr, Rrr, Rrr, Rrr, Rrr, Rrr, Rrr, VRRROOOMMM---OFF. do you smell fuel? You could try starting with the gas pedal all the way on the floor - that signals the ECU to shut-off fuel. It's the 'clear flood' routine. did the problem begin after refueling or a wreck or any repair/maintenance? is the cel on? if not, scanning for pending codes may still be useful.
December 29, 201510 yr Author yes 1 lucky Texan that's what it does. it happened after the car battery went flat and I changed the car battery to a new one.
December 30, 201510 yr hmmm - first thing I would do, is try using the security fob - lock and unlock it 2-3 times. Then try to start it. (symptoms don't really make sense - but the security system may prevent driving the car sensing the battery change as tampering.) second suspect might be a fuel pressure leak somewhere....?
January 2, 201610 yr When you replaced the battery, there is a ground wire from the negative post to the fender wall. Mine came loose at the fender and caused me issues.
