Loyale won't start

Featured Replies

In the last month, my loyale had three instances where it would crank but not start, but after a few minutes, it would eventually start. About a week ago, it would not start at all. I wasn't hearing my fuel pump, so I replaced it today. Now it won't even crank, and will sometimes make a weird whining noise and the rpms will spike up to 2000 when I put the key in the on position.

Could this be ECU? If not, what else?

Check to see that you didn't miss a connection. Did you get a new or used pump? As for the spiking, I have gotten that before on accidentally turning key when distributor was disconnected. I don't think your ecu is the problem.

It was a used pump. But today, I pulled my battery to have it tested, and as soon as I touched the wrench to the negative terminal, all my doors unlocked. The battery tested good, and after reconnecting it, my radio and headlights won't turn on.

GREMLINS !  Sounds like a serious infestation.  I would tent the car and fumigate.

Seriously, you've got a wiring problem.  Had any electrical work done recently ?

Are your battery cables ends shiny new and tightly connected to your battery posts? Or are they groady greenish and loose?

They're not shiny, but they're not discolored at all, and they are tight.

With fuel pump prpblems, I would look at the relay before changing the pump.  Plug the green connectors together, and make sure the fuel pump pulses when the ignition is on, but the engine not turning.  IF not, it is probably the relay gone flaky.
