Can it be rebuilt!

Featured Replies

I think my manual 5 speed transmission is going out in my 1993 loyale.

It slips out of first gear and is reluctant to go into reverse.

I can't find a rebuild kit anywhere online,

dose anyone know where to get one?

Long shot, try one of the dealers. They can check stock across the entire country.

Most all of the bearings and synchros for that transmission cross over to the early (90-94) legacy non turbo manual transmission.

Sure you can rebuild it. Don't let anyone say otherwise. It just takes some homework.

well looks like I have some research to do.

thanks guys!

There is no kit, but it can be rebuilt. The bearings you can get through almost any bearing supplier, but you'll have to get the numbers off the bearings inside. The Subie numbers won't cross. I researched internal hard parts some time ago, and the cost of 2 or 3 internal parts is more than a used tranny. You can price it out, but I'd just get a used tranny. 5spd failures are pretty uncommon.

May be weak trans/engine mounts and worn shifter bushings not letting the trans go fully into selected gear(s).

hmmm, ill check the trans/engine mounts, im not sure what the shifter bushings are though.
