Subaru Repair Manuals

Featured Replies

I have purchased the Chilton and Haynes manual for my newly purchased 1988 Subaru GL Wagon 1800 and was looking for a factory service manual and had a question regarding differences.

I currently found this one which I can actually afford:

1987 Subaru Full Line OEM Factory Service Manuals - All 4 Volumes

or this one, which I cant find at an affordable price. If I can get everything I need from the one above I would rather do that.

1988 Subaru Shop Manual Set DL GL RX Brat (also 4 volumes)

I do not think I have found a FSM pdf for this, I am hoping to make one if thats the case to help anyone else who needs to reference it.

Any help would be great or if you have a set for sale let me know.

I was once talking to a subaru mechanic about timing belt replacement, he interrupted me by asking me "do you have a hanes manual?" I replied yes,he replied "good throw it in the garbage" point being, there is absolutely no substitute for a factory manual.

+1 what Downwash wrote. I did find a Chilton manual I got with a car useful for helping determine which parts were interchangeable between years, but aside from that, no substitute for a fsm.

Engine, trans, brakes, steering, suspension, driveline - everything mechanical under the entire vehicle is identical to your 88 wagon.
