April 12, 20178 yr Might have time for an off-road drive this time in C'Springs . But, I have no mods and will be on all-seasons. Just wondering if there's anything for flatlanders that might get them a little more rugged scenery , without needing a winch or a shovel or a buddy with recovery straps. Not that I, personally, wouldn't love an adventure - but the wife would like to keep her car greasy side down - and we need it to drive back to Tejas.
April 12, 20178 yr Snow! Here in the Pacific NW, there's still loads of snow in the mountains. I expect local CO members will be able to update you.
April 13, 20178 yr Author some reading at traildamage led me to Rampart Range Road , looks easiest/best for me. Probably try an out-and-back from the s. entrance at G of the G . If I have time, might try more of it since I'll have a week in the area. Edited April 13, 20178 yr by 1 Lucky Texan
April 13, 20178 yr Yes, Rampart Range Road is a nice drive. I can be a little bumpy and if the wife does not like looking over the edge of the cliff she may not like it. Nice views. Larry
April 13, 20178 yr Hey 1LT...I thought just about ALL of CO west of Denver was scenic to a Texan....and even to this NW resident (spent a couple ski bummin' seasons in the area). I believe Pikes Peak is now paved, so not much adventure in that, but still is likely worth a trip up....depending on snow. Have fun, TD Edited April 13, 20178 yr by wtdash
April 13, 20178 yr Author it's still beautiful to us - but, we've been to CoSpgs a few times - just looking for an inexpensive sightseeing/tourist option.
April 14, 20178 yr First, stop in Longmont and find the Luna Cafe (off 8th street) and order an Italian Cappuccino. Best you will get this side of Napoli. Then do the drive through the Rocky Mountain National Park. I wouldn't go off road in a Subaru.
May 3, 20178 yr Author went up Rampart Range Rd. a few miles - awesome views, easy drive though surface very rough(wonder if dropping 3-4 pounds from the tires would help?). But, I saw no ruts or wash-outs. Went in the middle of the week, saw 4 other vehicles. highly recommended - hoping to go farther next time I visit. https://goo.gl/photos/y6hpNgjEEypgY6U7A https://goo.gl/photos/GGdYMmesxKNFMU4k8 ritzy 'enclave' up there!; https://goo.gl/photos/WXckpHqpHsaacJWGA
