Check Engine Light - On - Off - On

Recommended Posts

I drive an 88' gl WAgon dual range 4wd, and i have this problem, but it only seems to happen when everything else is tweaking at the same time such as the volt meter, speedo sticks, gas guage says it fuller than it is, the temp guage fluxes mostly on the hot side and the clock is dimming and lighting up and changing times randomly, can anyone diagnose this?

Alternator. Possibly some crappy or loose connections.

Sorry about that, the home computer was not working correctly. It is a 1987 Automatic transmission 4wd gl wagon. Your basic setup. Everything seems to work properly except this stupid light which seems to come on and off whenever it wants to. Most of the time it says on for awhile and then goes off. Where would I check for loose connections?

I beleive there is a writeup on reading codes in the Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual, and you should be able to read the codes even if the light is not on (they store it to memory). the computer is under the steering column, take of the panel (5 or 6 screws), turn on the ignition (engine need not be running), and count the long and short flashes (long = first digit, short = second digit). then look it up. my haynes manual has all the codes if the repair manual doesn't
