Rooster2 Posted August 24, 2017 Share Posted August 24, 2017 My instinct tells me "no." The stock OEM system is set up for optimum air//fuel performance mixture, and controlled by a computer. heartless Posted August 25, 2017 Share Posted August 25, 2017 the best "upgrade" you could give your car would be a full "tune up" with quality parts NGK plugs and wires air filter fuel filter PCV valve New vacuum lines Complete timing kit (if needed/not done recently) fresh antifreeze and an oil change there are not really any aftermarket "performance upgrades" for these cars. 1 Lucky Texan Posted August 25, 2017 Share Posted August 25, 2017 +1 on keeping up with fluids and tune-up parts. you can make the car feel sportier with suspension upgrades; new struts, heavier anti-sway bars, stickier tires. and lighter rimes will free-up a coupla ponies and give you a chance to personalize the looks a little. Maybe a lightweight crank pulley too. most cops don't care how fast you turn corners. Are you coming from another brand/background that you have for reference? If you're new to cars in general than there's a ton of info online about upgrading a car's fueling needs, but it's not 'just because'. The main issue w/the EJ22's is the lack of tuning options. If yours is in a '90-'94 there are limited options; if '95-'01 basically none that don't require a lot of wiring - harness merging, ECU-swapping, etc. Do a search on NA-T -turbocharging a non-turbo Subaru - for info....been done many times and as long you're not greedy it'll run for a long time too. heartless Posted August 27, 2017 Share Posted August 27, 2017 I've done just about all of these things as well as timed the car myself with the waterpump change Then you are pretty much done. there really is no "aftermarket" add-ons for them to increase performance - without spending a truckload of money, of course. these cars are built for reliability & to some degree, economy, not "performance" You could look at possibly adding a turbo, but that brings with it a whole host of other issues (and related costs).
