Hey all.

Ive been having a slow coolant leak lately on my 95 2.2 Legacy wagon.

I just looked at it in the dark with a flashlight and it seems the plastic fitting where the

top hose attaches to the radiator has a hairline crack.

At first i thought it might just be the hose, but when i actually push down on the hose

the coolant comes out of the plastic near where the plastic tube connects under the phillips plug on top.

 

I was wondering what kinds of radiatorss would be the best to get other than Subaru

which im sure would cost an arm and leg. Any recommendations welcome.

I did see Koyos which were pretty affordable.

Also, do you actually use the same radiator for both manual and auto transmissions?

Most aftermarket radiators can be used for both auto and manual transmissions you just don't use the oil cooler fittings on a manual car.

 

I've used two from RockAuto after I cracked the plastic bits on the ones installed.

 

Quality is usually worth the price paid

switched to koyo in 2005 when the stock one gave out.  still running strong today.

I’ve bought the $60-$100 advance auto parts radiators a bunch of times without issues.

 

But sample size is small so that’s anecdotal as all responses will be unless a long time shop worker comments.

We generally recommend Koyo and Denso. 

 

There aren't aluminium race style radiators available for most of the non-turbo radiators. We prefer them of course but the only people that spring for them are owners of turbo cars so they never get enough demand to make them for non turbo applications. Sports models like the BRZ, etc get them also.

well just in case people see it i was looking around and on the denso site they say theyre investing 1 billion in their plant in maryville tennessee so thats something.
