March 25, 20188 yr Hi peeps....help help help.....I have a 2007 Subaru legacy 2.0R automatic. One of the oil cooler pipes cracked and leaked oil. I replaced the pipe and topped up oil. But car is not changing out of 1st....goes through all gears when idling. As soon as you drive ...the at oil temp light flashes and ecu light and cruise light flashes.....
March 25, 20188 yr Did you take the negative terminal off and let the car sit a bit? Sometimes that resets the Trans computer. You may be looking for a trans too. Hope not.
March 26, 20188 yr Author Yes taken the terminal off many times. Is there are any other way to reset the transmission, or the transmission control module?
March 26, 20188 yr did you check trans fluid level while idling? it's the only fluid you must check with the engine running.

I hate to ask- are you sure you added fluid to the transmission and not the front differential?

March 26, 20188 yr Author I hate to ask- are you sure you added fluid to the transmission and not the front differential? In South Africa when standing in front of the car the dipstick for the gbox is on the left at the back.
March 26, 20188 yr In South Africa when standing in front of the car the dipstick for the gbox is on the left at the back. I doubt it. (unless we are no longer dealing with an automatic trans equipped car) look again, one stick on each side pull both sticks out - the shortest is the front differential, the longest is for ATF. (engine oil would be some length in-between) Edited March 26, 20188 yr by 1 Lucky Texan

March 26, 20188 yr The long dipstick is on the left and the short on the right... That is if you are standing in front of the car. That doesn't make sense. Let's forget about standing in front, that's the wrong way to describe sides of a car. Lets go with where things are SITTING in the car looking forward. South Africa, so I am guessing a Right hand drive car. The differential dipstick (for gear oil) is the short one, on the right side of trans (same as the steering wheel) The Automatic transmission fluid dipstick is the long one on the left side of the car. If you filled the dipstick on your drivers side (right side of car) you filled the differential, not the Automatic trans.
March 26, 20188 yr I filled where the long dipstick is....the.short dipstick.was never low. Checked level on that long stick while engine running in Park?
March 26, 20188 yr Presumably you mean the rubber ATF fluid hoses? What cracked and what work was done? What symptoms did you have leading up to the failure? Check engine lights? Trans codes? Is the transmission pan dented any?
March 26, 20188 yr check ATF using the stick on the left side of the engine bay (as sitting in the car) like this; has the engine or transmission recently been out of the car? maybe the trans pump is cracked? Edited March 26, 20188 yr by 1 Lucky Texan
March 27, 20188 yr The way I describe it to folks is the ATF dipstick goes into a metal pipe that disappears, the front diff gear lube dipstick does right into the top of the transmission case.
March 27, 20188 yr Author Presumably you mean the rubber ATF fluid hoses? What cracked and what work was done? What symptoms did you have leading up to the failure? Check engine lights? Trans codes? Is the transmission pan dented any? no dents on pan Yes rubber hoses going to cooler Symptoms not sure I wasn't driving....wife was.. her description was was the car is revving but not moving.... March 28, 20188 yr Will do that now but immediately after switching off oils was right Transmission fluid MUST be checked with the car running, preferably with it fully warmed up, and parked on flat, level surface. Do NOT check it with the car shut off - it will not give you an accurate reading. Edited March 28, 20188 yr by heartless
