I am sure others have seen these before. I took pics today. Looks like a rubber insert on the top of one front bumper

Two cars. One sedan. One wagon. One got single headlights other twin.Not much left but what you see. Grille?

Been contacted by he knows who he is..... apparently one of these is his so I better not reveal where these are

what is that growing on that front window on the second picture? mold?

 

and im not fully understanding your story, are you gonna purchase these and restore them? or just a find that some friend had at their ranch?

Those are not rubber. Those are metal “hide” strips for lack of the proper term.

 

They cover the open space otherwise provided by the impact bumper. We older folks will say impact bumper because that’s the era the DOT started with shock absorbing bumpers. So they put the strip Over the bumper so if the bumper does get compressed it should do so beneath that strip and if it was a light hit possible bounce back out from the “shocks”.

 

An eBay seller has one of those shocks on right now.

They are rubber, only the US got those disgusting Impact bumpers. The rubber covers were on the Hardtops like one of mine here

It's called lichen. An interesting symbiotic relationship between coral and algae. Comes in many forms and structures but we know little about them other than they're an indicator of little to no disturbance.

 

Cool stuff and can be found all over the Australian bush and in some places in the deserts too

Well I have metal , so maybe some models or whatever got rubber. That bumper and the black piece look different than our USA models. The quad lights of course they got and we didn’t.

No, they are not mine. They are sitting side by side under the protection of blackberry bush in a wrecking yard in the highlands of south eastern Australia

 

I think they have been picked to bits over the decades and are merely shells with bumper and grille

 

I have no desire to purchase or restore. I feel these Subies are a bit too cosy inside, steering and suspension components a bit light weight compared to the EA81 and later models
