August 3, 20187 yr What is the most straightforward tranny swap for a '92 SVX? Picked up a running, driving "92 SVX for $500, want to keep it on the cheap...
August 3, 20187 yr SVX, good luck getting a known-good one. EVERYTHING else requires at least swapping the rear diff as well.
August 3, 20187 yr Author Thank you. As far as swaps, I've seen several combinations. I suppose i'm looking for the route that requires the least amount of fabrication/modification.
August 3, 20187 yr Personally, I"d grab something from a '96-'99 OB/GT/Forester w/the EJ25D and 4EAT. The trans is likely plugnplay (get the TCU) + the rear diff swap is a 4.44 FD ratio which will increase your RPM's and make it quicker off the line. You'll lose the VLSD of the stock rear diff...but it's probably dead on the stock car anyway. Go checkout www.subaru-svx.net/ for specifics. If you want to tackle the 5-speed swap, that would elevate its performance even more. Edited August 3, 20187 yr by wtdash
August 3, 20187 yr I also bought my svx for $500. Same issue. Got 4eat tranny and diff from a Forester for under $600 I believe, off of car-part. Make sure you get it resealed at least, and make sure you get the matching differential from the same car. That is the most straight forward swap that I know of, considering the svx uses a 4eat. I have plans for a manual swap at some point.
