Engine Exchange - EJ25

Featured Replies

We own a 2003 Subaru Forester XS 2.5L, VIN 6, 6th digit. Unfortunately, the engine heads and block cracked. We are searching for another 2.5L engine that would work.

Main Question: What years/models come with a compatible engine for the 2003 Forester? For example, would a 2.5L from a 1999 Legacy work?

Thank you in advance.

I believe sites like carpart.com and subarupartsdeal.com will show compatible parts once you enter details of vehicle. I'm sure the gurus will be around shortly but in the meantime worth a shot.

99 Forester/Impreza, and 2000 to 2005 - all models (with 2.5's).

Block is *cracked*?!? Really? Post pics or it never happened.

My bad, the block is not cracked, but it got damaged, too, from the extreme heat. Unfortunate mishap involving an improperly installed radiator. Thanks for pointing that out.
