Yup, pretty much the northeast, the all weather tires are perfect.

   I appreciate the help. Question: for all wheel drive what good millage and not so good millage to get out of tires. I have been getting 30k out of tires for my 2011 Subaru Forester. 

 Also for my Toyota Corolla what is good mileage to get out of a set of tires. Thanks. 

If your Subaru is in good allignment, I would expect 40k miles to be about the max you'll get and 25k miles the least.. Somewhere around double that for a FWD Corolla. Figure 40-50k miles per set on a FWD

Now when should a vehicle get an alignment. That is something I never new. I thought you get an alignment every year or do you only get an alignment as needed. 

I always got my vehicles aligned each year. I just do not know. Thanks. 

If tires are wearing good/ even treadwear, you don't need one. Some elect to get alignment checked with every set of tires.

Copy that - if they're wearing fine now then you don't need one.  If you think about it - if alignment magically "went out" frequently - you'd have issues even getting an alignment once a year or with every tire change - if the alignment went out shortly after those times you'd be driving 10 months or years with bad alignment.  As it happens, that's not really common. 

Rough roads and driving conditions can be more detrimental on alignment than really good roads, vehicle conditions, and light vehicle use.  

I routinely ran 100,000 miles without even thinking about alignments in maryland and georgia on well maintained surfaces.  Now in WV with far worse roads I tend to see more alignment issues. 

it's wise to consider the vehicle use (roads, towing, work, loads, aggressiveness) and proactively keep an eye on how they're wearing somewhat regularly.

alignment is one possibility for pulling left or right. But also, you can have a hung brake and not know it, and there is also the possibility that a tire has a broken belt or is under pressure, and causing a pull due to high rolling resistance..

BTW I used to do allignments, but hated doing them so I'm glad I don't do them where I'm at

  Question. You used to do alignments before. Why won’t alignment places just do an alignment check. In my area of pa the places that do alignments will not do just a check. They say you get an alignment or not. If we are going through all the trouble to hook up the equipment we are almost done the alignment so you are getting it. No buddy in my area will wast their time to hook up equipment for a check. So answer me why can’t these places in my area just do an alignment check.

takes a while to set up an allignment rack and often you'll find something just a smidge out of spec to where, your that close it might as well be done and at that point take your money for an alignment.. 

I had a buddy who recently went out of business who did alignment checks for $20, and $60 for the alignment which is dirt cheap here as well as having a low labor rate. He closed his business because he wasn't making enough. But he had a large customer base.

I am getting new tires. Should I get an alignment with my new tires or not. 

  

if your tires are wearing evenly, I wouldn't bother. If you have an inner or outer shoulder worn more than the rest then get an allignment

Best advice would be to buy a tread depth gauge. Walmart even sells them now for a dollar or so, or any auto parts store. any more than 2/32" variance or so and I would want an alignment. Check in 3 places or otherwise just look for uneven wear

That would be for second from left. If your tires are flat spotted ( left ) then you need shocks/ struts or you got your tires at discount automart and the balance is way out.

Grand touring is a name that some use but basically meaningless. Touring tires/ grand touring tires are just basically highway tread..

We sell a lot of the Master craft version of the CS5, the LSR grand touring. There a good highway tire

Just go and visit a (or a few) tyre specialists/dealers and talk with them knowing the info that Matt and other members have contributed in here. They’ll be able to give you an upfront answer and you can ask more questions with a much quicker turn around in reply time. 

I think you’re over thinking this and really just need to get a new set of tyres. I’ve been reading since the first post and now it seems you’ve got the tyre you want but then nit pick for something else. 

It took me less than ten minutes on the phone to decide on my tyre choice. And I always get an alignment with new tyres, always! Alignments are cheap insurance to get the most life (=distance) from your tyre.
