Latest from the barn find. Had him driving it around a little and heard heavy knock/clunk from rear axle intermittently. Disassembled rear brakes to find all shoe retainer springs broken and beating the crap out of the wheel cylinders. Ordered some brake hardware kits from carid. We'll see

Replace the slave cylinders while you’re there. They tend to leak when they’re this old.

Yep and they were literally a dollar on rock auto when I got mine.

Ha! Just had this exact thing happen to me on my 88 GL. Fixed it up with new hardware, drums, and shoes. Stops a lot better now too!
