October 20, 20205 yr I just scored a really clean 86 wagon. The only issue I have left has to deal with pertains to HVAC system/ Heater system. I cant get any air to come out of any of the vents. The blower fan is blowing strong, the vacumn line seems to be functioning and I can see the levers move when I switch from defrost to heat to bilev and to vent. The hot/cold slider seems jammed up, I disconnected the cable from the slider and the jam up seems to be down on the flapper valve side. The only other thing I can see that might be involved would be this big goldish pot with a nipple on it that is just above the gas pedal. Oh ya and the heater core seems to be getting hot. Im at a loss and looking for a little help
October 20, 20205 yr All the air is coming out of the defroster? That's where the system blows when it has no vacuum. Make sure the lines are hooked up correctly the heater control, the hoses and control has numbers. Make sure you have vacuum at the heater controls.
October 21, 20205 yr If you have AC the evaporator could be very clogged up with leaves, pet hair or lint. Pull the fan unit and clean out the AC evaporator of any crap that’s in there. Won’t be an easy job but it could be the problem. Cheers Bennie
October 21, 20205 yr Glad Bennie did not say 'just' clean out the AC evaporator. Not that you have asked, the heater tap stopped with EA81 so coolant is always passing through heater core so it will always reflect the coolant temp. Air is directed or bypass to the core depending on if you want hot, cold or in between
October 21, 20205 yr A simple check is to take the fan resistors out and see if they are packed. That will also let you look in at the fan/evap. Easier to remove than the fan.
October 22, 20205 yr I had a similar problem and it was solved by removing a large mouse nest from the evap core. Good luck!
