March 1, 20215 yr Hello, My clutch and transmission have both decided to grenade, and I'm having a rough time determining which transmission can fit in my car. I have found a rolled over 2005 forester with what I need, but am not sure if the clutch slave and other things will bolt up between the 2005 and 2002. I know I will need the rear diff so the final drive will match (a welcome upgrade), but will everything else go together or are these too far apart? Thanks, CL
March 1, 20215 yr A quick look on RockAuto lists the same clutch, and same slave. You might need stub axles. The '05 will almost certainly have male splines on the axles, where the '02 will likely have female splines. You can grab the stub axles from an older 4EAT to convert. Or grab the axles from the '05 (check the ABS tone ring. Might be different, but I doubt it).
March 1, 20215 yr Author Do you think a 2004 WRX transmission would be a better option? I was also concerned about the stub axles, but rock auto made it seem they were the same. Thanks Edited March 1, 20215 yr by comatosellama
March 2, 20215 yr 04 WRX will be a pull-style clutch, so you'd need a different clutch kit (flywheel?) and slave cylinder and a 3.54 rear diff. Not sure if it would solve your axle issue.
March 5, 20215 yr Don't forget your VSS. The 2002 is likely still on the trans. pass. side. That 2005 was about when that went away. The DCC Pro (?) is an option, but may not be worth it.
