it is on the 84 brat, what is it , and what does it do?

I am not sure, but it has something to do with the EGR system... i usually remove these parts and plug all the holes on the manifold where it came out at

That is the anti-afterburn valve - supposed to prevent backfireing. Remove and file under R for round file..... doesn't do isht as far as I can tell.

yeh when my car is cold if you rev it up quickly then let if off just as quick you get this little pisssst like a b.o.v. but not as cool
