I have seen many Subaru Loyales on the internet.

What is the difference between the Loyale und the Leone?

 

There are 2 different types of the Leone in Austria:

 

The DL, wich has no high roof, no headrests in the backseats, no rev counter, no electric windows and more plastic inside

 

The GL has this high roof, all electric inside, and more velour

 

Is this similar to the US-models?

We have the DL, GL and GL-10

 

Then after 1989, they became the Loyale

 

The GL came with the high roof as an option, but there aren't a lot of them in the US

 

A large number of the GL-10s were turbocharged

 

DL is bottom of the line.

 

There was so much mixing and matching of parts done that its just crazy. Just the subject of what a GL-10 came equipped with has generated a number of multipage discussions in the past year.

 

This is going to get very long and confusing If we compare the whole USDM L- line to the EDM L- line..

No - he's talking about the difference between an EA81 and an EA82 to us. Subaru refers to the whole EA82 line ('85-'94) as the "Loyale". The Leone is the '80-'84 EA81 body. Completely different cars.

 

I don't see why this naming convention wouldn't hold for Austria - but who knows.

the high roof model you mention is called the Touring Wagon here in the us. the ones with more velour are the gl-10 models, they have the velour seats and door panels, and also the trip computer and a digital instrument cluster

 

in the us, subarus were called DL, GL, and STD from 80-98. in 1990, subaru came out with the legacy. so since there was a new line with a name, the dl/gl from 90-94 were called the loyale

 

in the us, the gl-loyake models have the composite single piece headlight with the replaceable halogen bulb. the DL models have the standard 4 headlight system using sealed beam headlights

 

mechanicaly the cars are the same, in the us and overseas, from body panels to interior options to the motor and driveline.

GD the Leone name was from the 70's through till the Liberty (Legacy) and Impreza took over for the guys overseas heck I find it funny that companies like Jeep called their liberty over here a liberty and then call it the cherokee over in europe and various other places instead of just gettin rid of the cherokee here and replacing it with the liberty and calling it the cherokee over here also but still it's funny

Hmmm... No. Sorry dude you swung way wide on that one.

 

Reread the original post. Its clear he's referring to trim lines within a single body style.

 

European market L-series cars are NOT referred to as a Loyale, even by subaru.

Huh - well that's how it is here in the US anyway. Those crazy Europeans anyway....

it is and that was the only year that had them too for the US and the only one in the states until the legacy's and outbacks started having them too

I was talking about the socalles EA82 models.

 

To summ it up a little:

 

The Leones 1985 until 1989 were available as DL, GL and STD

The Loyale was available only from 1989 until 1994 without the high roof

 

This modelline is called EA82.

 

In Austria, the Leone was available from 1985 until 1991. From 1985 until 1987

there was a 1600DL - model, wich was very naked inside and with the old engine from the EA81. Also from 1985 until 1989 the 1800 was available as DL, GL and GLT (Turbo). The GL and GLT had the high roof and more velours. And from 1989 until 1991 only the socalled Leone Ranger DL was available. This

model had no velours, no high roof and was more rustproof then the models

before 1989.

 

The EA81 was calles 1600/1800 in Austria, only the EA82 1985-1991 was called Leone.
