January 15, 200521 yr Is there someplace I can find adapter plates for my 92 Loyale? I have some 2-way speakers from Infinity that have the typical "cross" pattern (top, down, left, right) of screw holes. These are so not going to fit the weird "star" pattern (top, lower left, lower right) of the stock holes. I would also prefer not to drill any new holes.
January 15, 200521 yr if you rotate your speakers im sure you can get them to match up with the stock holes
January 15, 200521 yr did you take the mounting plate off the stock speakers? Probably a dull white color. You may have tried already, unfortunatly I did not catch that right away when I changed the speakers on my 91 loyale. good luck Is there someplace I can find adapter plates for my 92 Loyale? January 15, 200521 yr Author I wish, but I got the car used, with aftermarket speakers already installed. Pioneer had the forsight to use a set of different holes for different models. Infinity did not. Rotating also does not help. I think I can barely get one screw in, but that doesnt help much in the way of mounting the speaker. This is especially true for the door speakers.
January 15, 200521 yr when I put my speakers in I had to do a completely custom job. ie, for the fronts, I cut the metal out of the door to make room, then mounted the speakers in the door panel. For the rears, I again had to trim the door to make them fit, and I think I had to drill my own holes for it also. good luck
January 15, 200521 yr I have the answer. A drill, sawzall, and a plazma cutter. Job done. Well maybe a angle grinder.
January 15, 200521 yr Take your speaker and line it up with at least one of the holes, and screw it in place. Then take a marker and mark 3 other holes and prepare to drill. Use a small bit and the screws should fit right in. If the speakers are too deep they might hit the window when it gets rolled down. Check that before you put your side panels back on, cause it sucks when you find out and have to tear everything back out again. -Brian
January 15, 200521 yr ya make sure your window is DOWN when you put your speakers in. If these are high-dollar speakers oyu may want to think about some sort of plastic or foam surround to go over the backside of the speaker so rain and moisture and heat dont destroy your good speakers, weather gets in form the rain lip thingy that sort of squigies the window when you roll it down. you know what im talking about right..................... ~Josh~
January 15, 200521 yr All stereo shops have a little pocket that fits behind door speakers. They are cheep and weather proof. They act as if the speakers are in a mini box instead of using the whole door as a box. Your mid bass will be tighter and cleaner.
January 15, 200521 yr I wouldn't be shy about putting a pointy-tipped sheet metal screw, or the self tapping variety, into your door panels. Just press the speaker frame hard against the opening, put the screw through the vinyl, and bear down on the drill until it bites. You have to back off the drill 'video game fast' so the hole doesn't get reamed out after the screw bites, but you should get a solid connection with the door and get good sound out of your speakers. Pre-drilling with a 1/8" bit can help. I used to agonize over a couple of little pin-pricks in the door and try to drill the speakers to fit the factory clips, but after 20+ years of putting in my own stereos I don't worry too much anymore. For me, the most important thing is having a solid connection betweent he speaker frame and the body. - James B
January 15, 200521 yr Author Ouch. I thought that if the pioneers had the right hole lineup, there would be some adapter that could easily do the job. Sadly, I have no power drill right now (for shame), so I might have to have someone like Circuit City to do the dirty deed.
January 15, 200521 yr if you really care about your ride, don't take it somewhere like circuit city. hit the pawn shop, get a drill, and do it up yourself. if you do it yourself the sound will be that much better knowing you did the work yerself. just my .02
January 15, 200521 yr I just dilled new holes and used a hammer on the lower part for clearance. Also, make sure you check for WINDOW clearance before you finalize installl.....i STILL cant put my RX window all the way down...it hits the speaker...sometimes it slides past it, and gets stuff in the fulldown position...
January 15, 200521 yr Its not really that big of deal. It is not half a$$ to drill a hole in your door. If you take it to a high end stereo shop they will do the same. I personaly would sudjest using J clips. They are ment to be used over and over. The self tappin srews will not hold if you take them out a couple of times. Like if for any reason you have to take out your speakers.
