Are radiators different in A/C cars?

Recommended Posts

Come on you guys. A friend of mine is telling me these radiators are somehow different even though they look identical. He doesn't know soobs though. He got this idea somewhere that radiators off of A/C cars are double or something. My dl with ac radiator has two fans, other than that it looks the same.

Will a radiator out of an 84 GL no A/C work in an 83 DL with A/C? Aside from the two fans I mean. Is there any internal differences about the radiator with A/C?

I'm not sure about the EA81 cars but I know that all the EA82 cars have a single core radiator with plastic side tanks, except the turbo cars with the auto trans, which have the all brass two core. There are slight differences but both fit.

No difference for AC cars 83-84

Some difference for auto/MT(tranny cooler?)

Minor(?)difference for FWD MT and 4WD MT cars

Gary, my wife's 87 twagon/3at has plastic tanks/aluminum core. Pretty sure my 90 twagon is the same (too lazy to check  ).

According to my radiator guy, there is very little difference in Subaru radiators... most of the differences are in the bottom mounting pegs and top mounting holes.
