February 22, 200521 yr both have 92MM bore. anyone want to grab some WRX pistons/pins/rods and see about them fitting in the EA82 and get some measurements comparing pistons? All my EJ205 sources are gone.
February 22, 200521 yr keep me informed if you come across anything, i need to find out for my build. thanks will.
February 22, 200521 yr Well, I would but the wife would probably get super PO'ed if I took the WRX apart.
February 22, 200521 yr i think the pin size could be overcome, somehow.probably just need custom rods. what about the hight from thetop of the piston to the center of the pin? is that the same between the two?
February 22, 200521 yr what about using the EJ20 rod? its got a longer stroke...but....hmmmm? i think the wrx rod would put the piston through the head, doesnt it already come flush to the deck at tdc? for that, i could see having to get a custom crank shaft made to accomodate the extra length.
February 22, 200521 yr what about using the EJ20 rod? its got a longer stroke...but....hmmmm? You'd prolly redefine the description of "interfearance engine" However maybe not? Whats the stroke of the EJ20 vs. stroke of EA82? Now is there room in the cylinder to compensate for the extra stroke? :-\
February 22, 200521 yr yeah with a longer stroke, you are going to have pistons slappin the hell out of the top of the head. maybe, if you changed the crank to one with lowered stops where the rods connect, it might work, but otherwise, its just pipedreams
February 22, 200521 yr EJ18 crank with EJ20 pistons?Don't think that will work in an EA81 or EA82 engine. The EA81T pistons will give you slightly higher compression then the EA82T pistons, and I know they work, I have them in the 85 SW.
February 23, 200521 yr with my engine, im not going for different compression or cheap parts, i am trying to build an engine that will be bullet proof.i want an ea82t that will withstand high boost and possibly high rpm. this is, of course, a long term project for me, i dont expect to be finished till at least fall if not winter.
February 23, 200521 yr The EJ rods are all longer than EA rods are. Further, the EA pistons have longer skirts typically, and don't tend to have the piston slap issues that EJ series engines are famous for....some being better than others obviously. The Compression of the pistons in the ea series is pretty diverse already as well so mixing or matching within the ea or ej engines should be sufficient for most builds. Otherwise like Shadow indicated you could get special pistons like any other import engine.
