EJ18 Impreza

Featured Replies

Are the EJ18 engines just as "Bulletproof" as the EJ22 ? Or do they have head gasket problems like some of the other Subaru engines {EJ25 phase I} I have a 90' Legacy AWD 2.2 and that thing will take everything you throw at and ask for more. I am VERY impressed and kinda proud :) to be honest of this little 4 banger [199,000 Miles] I resently bought a 95' Impreza AWD with the 1.8. It runs really good as well just wonder if the internals were the same as the 2.2 or if they were know for problems. Answers, comments, stories ANYTHING ! thanx

ive never heard of a problem with the EJ18 except for the fact that they dont have much power, but they tach out at like 7k dont they. :brow:

Basically the same engine as the early EJ22s, there are some slight differences, but nothing that would change reliability. Like ballitch, I have never heard of any problems with the EJ18. This engine as well as the EJ15 and EJ16 are used in most third world countries, some are even carburated and have distributors.

as far as opinions go, I like the EJ18 better than the EJ22, but i think gas milage has some things to do with my opinion.. and they do hold up very well too as far as not having many problems.. I have one in my 94 impreza!!

go EJ18!! :headbang:
