April 15, 200520 yr Like I said the other day: Damn you foreigners and your dual range cars. What's up mtsmiths. I'm from Missoula. Have a few friends from Whitefish, actually. Doin' the daily grind ... too old to work, too poor to retire.
April 15, 200520 yr Please please, have no idea what DUAL RANGE mean..... Dual range means that there is a transmission 'add-on' with a set of low and high gears. Usual driving is in high range. When you need lots of torque and low speed, you choose the low range. Very handy for off-road, towing up hills, stump pulling, etc. Most desirable, and most unavailable to us poor 'consumers' in the US. ($&^$@%$**) SOA anyhow!
April 15, 200520 yr what does single and dual range mean??? Look right before your post...and you shall find out!
April 16, 200520 yr is this continent going to be getting the D/R anytime soon??? Not very blody likely. . . . Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. . . SOA seems to think that North American drivers do not need to ever leave the pavement. . .
April 16, 200520 yr Wow! No dual range subarus in America!?! Wll...here in Europe you can hardly find any Impreza, Legacy or Forester without DR .
April 16, 200520 yr Author here in Europe you can hardly find any Impreza, Legacy or Forester without DR You are right! Today I had the first chance to look at it. WOOOOOW!!!! It has heated seats, tempomatic, Dual Range, sunroof, its blue, everything is electrin inside. Cant wait to drive it! We are getting it next week. Lukas
April 17, 200520 yr Like I said the other day: Damn you foreigners and your dual range cars. What's up mtsmiths. I'm from Missoula. Have a few friends from Whitefish, actually. Is Missoula a pretty nice place to live/raise a family? I've applied for a job out there. Never been. Doubt I'll be lucky enough to get it, but you never know...
April 17, 200520 yr Not very blody likely. . . . Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. . .SOA seems to think that North American drivers do not need to ever leave the pavement. . . I think i read a car and driver article a few years back that said something like 96 percent of SUVs never will go off road. Blame all of the cell phone moms loading 1 bag of groceries in the back of a spotless Ford Excursion....
April 17, 200520 yr Is Missoula a pretty nice place to live/raise a family? I've applied for a job out there. Never been. Doubt I'll be lucky enough to get it, but you never know... Missoula is a nice city (town by most states standards). Home of Univ. of Montana (a college that has a town). Liberal, lot's of culture and outdoorsey stuff to do. The Eugene of Montana. Very low crime and drug rates, gangs non-existant. Gangs don't do well in Montana ('cept on the Rez(s), random threats to ordinary folks in Montana can get one shot ... on the spot. Water and air quality are good ... 'cept when there's an inversion, then the paper mill west of towwn stinks up the whole place. A river runs through it, actually two rivers, with a confluence right in town. Got a great carosel, that all the folks in town carved special horses. Not as nice as Whitefish, but nice. We lived there for seven months when we moved from Hawaii, then north to Whitefish, where we've been eight years. Lot'sa Subarus, mostly daily drivers in Montana, not many enthusiasts.
April 17, 200520 yr You what? No Dual Range in the US of A? Over here, if it's a manual tranny station wagon, Dual Range is standard.
April 17, 200520 yr yep no dual range in a US models since I think '89. But I don't think those euro and aussie spec dual-ranges are anything to get excited about. They only have a 1.196:1 low-range. I have a 1.52:1 ea82 dual-range with front and rear LSD installed in my 98 Forester now. I don't see SOA ever offering Low-ranges again since most americans never use SUV's off-road.
April 17, 200520 yr Author The Dual Range is not only for off road use. We use it here on road for better torque and more gears when you are going uphill. Its fun to kick the 3LO in at the end of a village and the car has better power when you want to take somebody over an a country road. The Dual Range is also very good for towing trailers. The clutch will thank you;)! Lukas (Dual Range for OffRoad use: every Soob before the Legacy1, Dual Range for On Road use: every Soob without Turbo since the Legacy1)
