April 26, 200520 yr Wondering what you all have been doing to get more MPG's out of the DOHC Phase 1 EJ25D...Ive got the 1996 Version...so it lacks 10hp/10tq that the 97+ have...no head gasket issues, and its got 191k miles on it. Its BONE stock except for STi Version 8 struts with the stock OB springs. Wondering...intake? Full headerback exhaust?
April 27, 200520 yr I have a 01 legacy GT Limited sedan; fully loaded; I get 30 Mpg ( miles per IMPERIAL gallon ) I use mobil 1 5w-30; no mods; well ( very well ) maintained; car has 124,000Km
April 27, 200520 yr Definitely an important distinction to make. I get about 31 imperial MPG on the highway, but only 26 american MPG. e.g. 400 km and 36 l gas. 400 km * 0.6214 mile/km = ~249 miles 36 l / 4.54 l/gallon = 7.92 imperial gallons 249/7.92 = 31.4 mpg (imperial) or 36 l / 3.75 l/gallon = 9.6 standard gallons 250 / 9.6 = 26 mpg (american) Makes a big difference when stating it. I have a 01 legacy GT Limited sedan; fully loaded; I get 30 Mpg ( miles per IMPERIAL gallon ) I use mobil 1 5w-30; no mods; well ( very well ) maintained; car has 124,000Km

April 27, 200520 yr Im gettign about 20~22...most of that is a lead foot...but even with that same mixed driving with the RX i get 26 or better. How much less does the RX weigh than the OB?
April 28, 200520 yr At least you have the hyd engine. Seem to be better IMO and no valve adjustment necessary.
April 28, 200520 yr How old is the oxygen sensor? My mom's 97 OBW was starting to lose MPG b/c of an old sensor.
April 28, 200520 yr Author How old is the oxygen sensor? My mom's 97 OBW was starting to lose MPG b/c of an old sensor. Its about 30k old. Im sure it needs it....$ is a problem to replace it however. :-\
April 28, 200520 yr My wife is now leaving her 01 OBW at home most days, "stealing" the Forester. She prefers the seating position and glass area. She has a long gridlocked commute and has been averaging 9.6L/100kms. That's 25USMPG for the metric imparied.
April 28, 200520 yr Author Well, motul 5w30 8100 Full synthetic is in it now....tire presures bumped up and even all around...and I corrected a slight camber issue. Its ready to rock and roll.
