Clock Question

Featured Replies

This is a good one I've been meaning to post up.. Every time I shut the Brat off.. The clock resets to 1:00 ... It's kinda cool cuz I know how long it's been running.. but I kinda would like to have a clock. Any ideas?

Jack is right. Pat (Northwet) is the clock man. I mailed him my clock (which was non-functional for years). He mailed it back fixed. I haven't had to reset it since.

I believe that's for the ea82 clocks.

the ea81 clock resetting to 1:00 is a different common problem.

You need to unhook the "open door/key in IGN switch dinger"

if you take off the plastic bottom steering column covers, you will find a single wire that leads up to the IGN lock/switch mechanism. it usually has a bright green connector.

you just need to unplug it. all should go back to normal (just no more dinger)

if you really need the dinger, you probably need to replace it, or possibly get the IGN switch/lock cleaned. not really sure what the "true" problem is, as I never liked the dinger anyway....

It still may be related to the clock solder joints: Sort of a collusion between several problems of age manifesting in the clock's (mal)functioning. Definitely do what McBrat suggests, but if anyone wants to help decide if the clock itself does play a role in this problem, let's rework a clock and see if it helps.

as I never liked the dinger anyway....

the ding ding sux!

I dont think that I've ever had a vehicle that retained its ding ding for more than a week after my taking possession of the vehicle.

There is no ding ding... I haven't check to see if the connector is still hooked up or not.. but I do know which one you're talking about. I've been soo busy lately I haven't had time.. and damn I need to get that thing on the road.. grrrr :banghead: Stupid #4.. oh well.. keep the suggestions about the clock comin'. Thanks!

It sounds to me that there may be a problem with the circuit that is supposed to keep the clock memory alive while the car is parked. I think this is a seperate power connection from the main power that turns on the display while the car is running. I am speculating on this as I have never had to work on the circuit before. My '88 manual shows a green wire on the clock tied to continuous power so I think that is for memory.
