Check this out,.. Aussie RX Rally Spec

Featured Replies

There is a current thread on Ausubaru about a 'so called' Mid 80's RX STI

Its a good read for those into moddingdoc their RX as there are scanned docs of... Quote: RX Turbo document explaining factory rally parts to modify a standard Subaru RX Turbo to a factory spec rally car.

Could lead to some interesting developments

Could you provide a link to that site and/or post? Since STi (but not under that name) started at Subaru sometime in the late 80's, I guess it might be proper to call it a RX STi.

registration to view a thread? bah!

A few quotes:

From Wheels Magazine June 1985

',and during 1985 there will be 20 specially imported RX turbos brought to Australia. The car has already attracted enough attention for Subaru to consider introducing a road-going version as part of its Australia line-up, although that would not be before 1986 in any case.

The rally cars are European-specification road machines, and as such come without compliance plates but their new owners have made special arrangement's to register them for rally use only.'

'Subaru also has the equipment to turn them into full-on Group A rally machines. This includes up rated gas suspension, a close-ratio gearbox, improved braking system, a roll cage, body guards, different wheels and even a "black box" system to provide adjustable boost for the turbocharger, since adjustable wastegates are not allowed in Group A.'

Too bad these weren't the coupes that Subaru did in 87 for the WRC, I'd love to get my hands on one of them and restore it.
