Spider Intake Q's

Featured Replies

I recently gained the oppertunity to get a Spider intake. My question is, is will it bolt onto the turbo heads, and will my throttle body work with it, or should I get the throttle body that it comes with. Thanks.

My car is a turbo EA82T

the intake is on a 88 N/A EA82 XT

OK, Do I need to get the part with the injectors or no. I already have the MPFI set up (turbo) so all I should need is the actual intake, and throttle body.

I know Ill have to make a spot for the coolant return off of the turbo, and get the pitch control rod for the intake as well.

Do I need to get the injectors and everything for this to work, or no? Please help.

Also I need to know soon, as Ill be installing my WRX TMIC and BOV soon. I think this would be a sweet addition to the TMIC and higher boost pressures.

You need the whole thing. its 3 pieces IIRC. on part hold injectors, one has coolant passages and the other is the throttle body and air passages.

it will bolt on, but the harness plugs may be different, given that it is an 88 ( I know my 87 non spyder has different plugs than my 88 non spider)

Thats about as much as I know. I have further questions about it as well (I have a spyder in my garage collecting dust)

Are the alt and AC brackets different? What about the PS pump mounting?

So I will need the part with the injectors. I wonder why, fuel line routing maybe?

Then what put my turbo injectors into the spot for the spider intake injectors.

This mod better be worth it, this is a lot of time and money it seems like.

I mean seriously, how much of a gain can be expected from this?

The theory is 3-5 gains, smoother bottom end and easier IC plumbing.

IC plumbing is the main reason I'm thinking of doing it. I'm not real happy with the Stock TB for IC plumbing.

I am not happy with the stock plumbing ether, but I think it can justify not spending about $100-150 just to change the intake and Maybe gain 3-5 hp.

REVIVE!!!!! im getting a spyder intake! with it all about the same as this post.. and looking for more insight! :) HIT ME! (87 GL-10 EA82T)

Thanks!

so I take it the 85/86 N/A Spyder is different than what would go on a 87.5 RX coupe?

85 and 86 XT's did NOT have a spyder intake, just the 87.5 and newer. I put a NA spyder onto my '89 RX and all I had to do was make a fitting in the coolant passage for the turbo, wire the knock sensor into the spyder harness after I took it out of my original nonspyder harness, and having to figure out the EGR part since it's throwing a CEL for it. Other then that and the fact I gotta redo the AAV since it hits my TD04, it worked great, especially with the IC plumbing! I got some pics of it but will take a few days to get them up.

Cabooaroo, if you put up a specific how-to on installing the intake manifold and how modify all the necessary things to make that work, that would be amazing.
