Any problems with leaks?

Featured Replies

Hi there! Neewbie here with an 02 Outback. Just got the car last Saturday and have put 600 miles on the odo already. Today I have noticed a few oily spots on my driveway. Looks like I need to get under there and see if I can spot the problem areas. Car has only 22000 miles on the odometer so the leaks kind of puzzle me. Are Outbacks prone to leaks more than any other car?

thanks,

I'm new here, but I'm finding out that subes like to leak, but there is a lot of knowledge of how to fix them around here. Its common I guess.

Any engine will leak with time. AT the next Maintanenece, do a heavy Maint ...meaning replace timing belts, water pump, and the cam/main seals, and the oil pump. That would hold you for the next 120K. I had that all done, was pricey, but solved all the oil leaks, and gave me peice of mind.

Only thing is I have 22,000 miles on it... replace all that after 22k miles? It looks though that it leaks in a couple of places. Anything else except the engine? I might have to go for an oil change to the dealer and see what they say. I did buy extended warranty so cost should not be that big of a deal.

right? I hope so...

welcome to the world of subaru. they pretty much all leak oil  thats a pretty fresh car to start leaking though...

That is incrediblly early to start leaking oil. Go to the dealer and let him fix it asap.

Yeah that's low milage for a 2.5 I have no leaks yet on our MY01 2.5.

Our MY95 2.2 has had new cam seals twice now and we have 140k miles. The 2.2 seems to need attention around every 65k for small leaks.

Have the dealer check it and get it all done under the warrenty.

Are the spots kinda random? Perhaps it's somethong as simple as the drain plug or filter gasket leaking and the oil is blowing/running to 2-3 different spots before dripping.

good luck

Carl
