Who has bent moustache bars before?

I have two that both have a bit of a bend, is this normal?

Are they slightly offset from the factory?

Who has re-inforced theirs?

 

Its going to have to be way stronger than it is now when 6psi of boost hits it in a month or so..

Mines bent to hell. I think they get bent to a point at which they can bend no more and as such become stronger.

 

Besides, the big bushing on the diff carrier takes the load. The mustache bar just keep the diff from flopping around.

There are a few guys that have the lifted rigs with the 27 inch SSR's that have strengthened their bars. i think just about every one that's gone bigger has out of necessity.

 

 

I have a spare bar, and as soon as i can get some bread together, i'm definately gonna strengthen the bottom with some 90 degree channel, so that it can also slope over rocks better.

if they are bent, it can cause the diff to not be centered anymore, and cause wear on the rear axle that is being extended more than the other...

 

the big bushing doesn't force it to stay centered.....

One of my wagons has a bent one from someone using it to tow it out of the mud. Hasn't adversely affected anything to date.

Could be a slow death, could be when you least expect it, i'd at least hammer it flat, as close to what it was as you can.

It was bent back as good as possible without removing the bar. I'm doing a rearend swap on it come spring and will be replacing the bar at that time.

I think everyone has bent their bar to some degree.

I think it's a normal part of using/abusing the vehicle.

I reinforced my bar by adding a metal strip along the bottom side

making the bar shaped like an upside down "T" if looked at from tire to tire.

True enough in theory, but these are 20 year old Subaru's we're talkin' about! The diff isn't centered on the body to begin with, just think of the difference between the "easy axle" and "hard axle".

 

The answer is just to bend both sides to hell equally.

 

I'm not saying a renforced bar isn't a good idea, just that it's low on the list of priorities.

yep, the easy axle is on the right on 2 of my brats....
