Donor vehicle for incline/angle gauge?

Featured Replies

I remember someone in marketplace selling one of those gauges that shows your incline and tilt angle -- it was swiped from some '80s Japanese 4wd vehicle -- Toyota? Mitsubishi? Someone please refresh my memory so I know which cars to peek into at the junkyard.

Thanks!

yeah early 4wd 4runners for sure. good luck finding one

Mid 80's sr5 4runners had them, and so did Montero's. I remember a while back seeing some for sale at Auto Zone or Advanced. I'm sure JC Whittny has them.

Cheapest place to get 'em would probably be the JY. I remember watching a couple on ebay get up to like $100+ a few months back. They are wicked cool and definitly worth looking for if you can get a good deal.

I went to an Jap wreckers ( this is in Australia btw ) and they had heaps of early 4runners and toyota surfs with them.

I know it wouldn't look as trick, but wouldn't just one of the cheap ball shaped compasses you can buy for a car work too? You could just park on a reasonably level spot and mark it for level, then go where your at the max say side-hill etc, etc. and mark it again?

Dodge raiders had them too. Same thing as an old montero only two doors. those guages are in a ton of vehicles in Costa Rica.

If you got one with the "4wd" light instead of the altimeter, it would be wicked easy to hook it up to your 4wd dash light. Would look super clean too. You could also hook up the background lights on the inclinometer to dash lights when you turn on your lights. Everything would look super good but you have to shell out $$$$ for a decent inclinometer . . . :(

I got the Tercel one from McBrat a few years back, i still need to wire it in, but its chillin on my dash now.

It may say something about me, but the first thing i though of when I saw this was using a small car, like a civic, as an RTI ramp and calculating the lean of the car on how far up the hood/windshield you get. Then i saw it was a dash gauge, and all my visuals were ruined.
