exhaust idea

Featured Replies

ok so im thinking what if you put a turbo up pipe on a non turbo (of course after fitting the turbo crossmember) or using a turbo car you made the exhost a snorkel deal where it came out of the hood and up the a pillar then down the roof i guess a muffler on the roof somewhere. but anyway would keep it out of the water, you could seal up the underside of the engine compartment more. ,,,,,,

That would be unsafe for a number of reasons. Heat being the biggest. Double wall pipe would make it very expensive. Besides, wouldn't it look a bit odd?

The turbo crossover has been used on a N/A motor with success.

might be hard to make something like that come up out of the hood, easier to come out the sides by the fenders.... I'm not really worried about things getting wet other than my intake, it would be kinda cool to have 2 straight pipes come out each side through the fender, it'd be obnoxious as hell, the ea81 isnt the most attractive sounding engine

I'd rather have good drainage vs being able to float

that's interesting. "success" means it ran well?

I have a turbo crossover on mine. When I put it on I noticed better low end torque than the previous straight pipes.

..... ??? I reckon my ea81 with 2" pipe sounds better then ALL STi's. But then again, I'm not much a fan of those 4" tip fart can rumbles..

The only thing I don't like about the sound of my ea81 is the rattles under the hood

I have thought of this idea as well. The main point is to get it out of rocks way. I also though a better idea would be just to have the pipe sticking out the fender by half an inch. You'd want good door seals! and not care about your paint.

No worries, that just means it's a Sube.

you could route the muffler up at the rear with another pipe to get it out of the water, it would look like a diesel truck

Thats the best option I would think. Just some funky attachment that makes a 90 degree bend then goes up to the top of the trunk or higher...

Here's one guy's out the hood and up the pillar exhaust. Pics were taken at WCSS4(?)

I dont see the point in this. Exhaust can run under water just fine! The only thing you have to worry about is the intake.

Not if you shut the car off or it dies or you let off the gas too much... You can potentially suck water up the exhaust.

How about just have a exhaust tip that faces down. Use gravity, it works :)
