fwd to awd

Featured Replies

let me start by saying i have a 93 FWD impreza 5-speed...after looking for an awd 5-speed sedan for awhile and no luck

i got a couple of friends together that know more than i do and are willing to help this summer

as of now im trying to make a list of all the things im going to need for a FWD to AWD swap and trying to estimate how much money im going to pour into this

if any of u guys have done this before possibly to your impreza or such feed me anything you know..i already know most of the basic stuff but i didnt start to look in-depth yet for what ill need for the drivetrain and etc.

and if u've done it before and remmber how much it came out to be also let me know...unless i cant find what i need everything will be from the junk yard excluding things like clutch which needs to be replaced the way it is..

im in no hurry and we arent going to start this untill summer unless the one guy finishes his jeep sooner

hopefully i dont get in too deep and abort mission half way through

alot of this will all be new to me as a learning experience ...but these guys should do fine they've been trashing there jeeps and rebuilding them way before they even had there license

you need an AWD 5spd MT... that's about it... well, along w/ a rear diff, axles, and hubs

i think that's it?

you'll also need the driveshaft and the cross member the diff bolts too (rear mustache bar?).

the whole rear end will need to be replaced. subframe, hubs, you will also need a awd tranny, a rear diff and a driveshaft from an impreza, as well as halfshafts....and pray that the gas tank isnt different too.....

when i do the swap...is it better for me to go ahead and put in a dual range..or just keep it stock so its less confusing

howmuch of a difference would it be between tranny's is there gonna be ecu garbage to deal with? i have a 5-speed

if your current car is an EJ series then the dual range EA series trans will not bolt up without a custom adapter. i believe your car is an EJ, but i'm not real familiar what year they changed either.

at least you're not going auto to manual, that's even more annoying, the pedal assembly and shifter to mess with.

having a donor vehicle with trans and associated parts is nice.

better crawl under a AWD one. you need: rear end - complete, fuel tank, gearbox, shifter ,tailshaft, and all the brackets. electrics will line up and no need to screw with ECUs

you have the EJ18 motor, if you do a search for AWD swap or go to legacy777's site you will find all the info you need.
