problem with Legacy hatch latch and odour...

Recommended Posts

Hello folks I'm new to the site. Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the ball socket on the Legacy wagon hatch latch. One of mine on my 97 Legacy wagon has come off and will not stay on.... any ideas, quick fixes or similar problems...

Also on both my 96 and 97 wagon (but especially on the 96) I get an odd odour from the car once it is warmed up. It's very apparent if I'm stopped at a light and noticeable from outside the car when I turn the car off.

Thanks Vic

What does it smell like? Toasted marshmallows, rubber? Do you see any vapor? what color is it?

I will look more closely tomorrow but it could be exhaust smell or something burning off the engine but there is nothing really obvious. I wonder if it is coming from the radiator??? Sorry I can't be of more help. I will check it tomorrow..

you have a leak. CHeck the PS fluid, that will cause an odd smell, and oil leaking is another good one. The ball you just have to replace it

 why can't i figure out what part your talking about.only thing that i can think of that has a ball socket near the hatch is the hatch lift supports(you know those things that hold the hatch up)

one of mine keeps popping off if i lift it up to much.i gotta replace em,cause one of these days it's gonna fall on my head

Look at the axle to transaxle connection

There have been reports of the grease being of

the wrong composion and leaking out onto the

exhaust (stains will be evident)

It produces a very odd odour i.e. odor

That's the one... It won't stay on and, yes, it's quite heavy if it fell on your head...

you could try going to the j/y and try and find a subie that matches yours and just unbolt the whole thing(just the shock and mounts, not the hatch)

or find a broom stick to use to hold up the hatch instead of fixing:D
