Do automatics have hill holder?

Featured Replies

I have an 87 Gl-10 auto and was wondering if the autos had hill holder. I know t is the stupidest question ever and I thought they were only a 5 speed thing but I wanted to ask. It sounds like my front passenger side brake is locking up. When I step on the brakes and then go it grids and squeels then will stop after a little bit of driveing. My brake petal if spongey, alot and the brakes arethere but slow at stoping. I have yet to pull he wheel and see whats up but I read of the hill hlder sticking, also it could be the e brake. The brake petal also ppulsates and pushes up and down when I stop so I am sure I need front rotors. What do you think.

NO
OMFG.

Thank god this isn't the Nasioc.

Dude, he's new, we've all been there, whether it was asking people in person or online. Cut him some slack.

NO hill holder. It sounds like you need to do a brake job (at least the fronts).

You'll need to get the brake pads (New) and either new rotors, or see if the old ones can be turned (machined flat) at a parts store.

Whatev dude. I've been helping him via PM for the past week.

Cut me some slack before you have your facts straight.

I don't believe I accused you of anything. I just read your post and took it as an insult aimed towards him.

Well I hope I didn't mean to start an argument. This is my first subaru and well I searched and figured I would just ask.I kinda figuerd that they didn't but you never know, and besies I did write in my first post "this is the stupidest question ever". This is my first subaru and I just wanted to ask becasue of my brake issue. so thanks for the replies and I will see how the rest of my week turns out as its a bad one already.

the hill holder is to help you engage the clutch without having to stand on the brake (so you don´t need 3 legs :brow: )

but on an auto you only have 2 pedals so i don´t see how a hill holder culd help

GL-Boost, you're not dumb, just learning. Everyone on this board had to learn somehow.

You need to thoroughly go through your front brakes. Here's what I recommend:

-Turn or replace rotors (I would replace them, because it's not too much more than turning them)

-Rebuild or replace calipers (you can get a rebuild kit for about 8 or 9 bucks) I would strongly recommend doing both sides even if just one is having a problem right now

-Replace slide pins and lubricate well

-Replace brake pads

-Bleed brakes

-Adjust parking brake cable

While you're there, you might want to repack your front wheel bearings, too. Good luck.
