Convert the Brat to Power Windows??

Featured Replies

I wanna convert my brat to Power Windows. Today at the junkyard I found a 2door GL10 Coupe, '83, EA81. I know the doors match, so would I just take the window and the power window guts from the GL10 doors and put them in the Brat? Will it all bolt up? Also, can I just hot-wire the switches and forget about all the wiring and the harness? I dont plan on using the center console with the switches, i will just have one switch on the passenger side door, and 2 switches on the drivers side door (one for each door).

Anybody have any idea's for me? Or suggestions?

I suggest you send the innards to me

you might need some of the wiring from under the drivers seat, as it has the relays, etc... needed for the auto stop function.... and auto up/down

There's a power window control unit somewhere... not sure where, but just a heads up for you. I don't know what all it does, but probably works the auto up/down for the driver door I would imagine.

I'm sure you could do without it, but if you are going to do it right, then yes, you at least need relay's to control the window motors - you don't want that much amp draw running through the switches.

Gotchya, ok... so i'll return on tuesday and get the stuff.

Mick, if you want them bad enough, give me an offer and i might want to get them out of my garage that much faster :)

Hey Brian, you don't even need the glass, as it will be different, jes make sure you get the innards that make it work, as for the switches, if you want door mounted ones, look for a 3dr with power windows, they had two switches on the the Dr door, and 1 switch on the Pas door. The wireing will work the same, you might have to swap out a connecter or two, but they are the same.

I was going to do this with mine, and this is how I was going to do it.

So the power window glass is the same as the manual window glass? I think i could probably get the entire door for less than just the inners.

from the door, you just need the motor, regulator (geared thing) where it all attaches to the bottom of the glass. and the wiring to the door, and under the drivers seat. not sure if there's more....

the regular crank regulator bolts up to the glass the same way... if the doors are the same color as your brat, it would be easier to grab the door, and put the brat glass in it :)

Doors are black/grey. Would look real goofy on my Silver brat :)

Hopefully this is something i can pull off. I wanna do the power steering conversion as well. Thats alittle later tho.

The power steering is easy - I'm going to do that on mine as well. I talked to Mudrat about it - he said it's basically plug and play, and since there's no electrical parts for the PS, it's REALLY easy.

And as for the doors - keep em anyway - you never know when you might gert another Brat, and you could always paint them. Easy to paint a door cause it's already off the vehicle.

If I had a place to put them, I would... but right now my garage is getting kinda full. So i'll just grab the door guts. I do want the door panels tho. Its white on grey, just like Mt. Grizzley has.
